App Store fee calculator.
See what you actually get from every App Store sale before you set a price: Apple's commission at 30%, 15% in the Small Business Program, or 15% on subscriptions after year one, tax taken out first, then your net per sale, per month and per year. Below it: every App Store screenshot size, copied from Apple's own spec page.
Your price
Customer price in your currency. Common price points:
| Case | Apple takes | You get / sale | Per month |
|---|
US prices don't include sales tax, so leave VAT at 0 for US sales.
How it works
- Tax first. Where the price includes VAT or GST, the tax is taken out (price ÷ (1 + rate)), then the commission applies to what is left. Apple's words: you receive a percentage "of the subscription price ... minus applicable taxes" (Apple: Auto-renewable subscriptions).
- 30% standard. "Apple shall be entitled to a commission equal to thirty percent (30%) of all prices payable by each End-User" (Apple Developer Program License Agreement, Schedule 2, 3.4).
- 15% Small Business Program. "A reduced commission rate of 15% on paid apps and Apple In-App Purchases" for developers with up to 1 million USD in proceeds the prior calendar year, or new to the App Store. Pass $1M in the current year and the standard rate applies to future sales (Apple).
- Subscriptions: 70% to you in a subscriber's first year, 85% after one year of paid service; free trials and renewal extensions don't count toward the year. SBP members get 85% from the start (Apple).
- Not modelled: the EU's alternative terms, external purchase links and payments outside the App Store each have their own fee rules. This calculator is the standard App Store deal.
App Store screenshot sizes
From Apple's Screenshot specifications (App Store Connect Help, read Oct 23, 2026). Upload 1 to 10 screenshots per size, as .jpeg, .jpg or .png, with no alpha channel or transparency. Portrait sizes shown; landscape is the same numbers swapped.
The short version: Apple requires "at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display)" and, if your app supports iPadOS, "at least one screenshot for iPad 13-inch display". If your UI is the same across sizes, provide the highest required resolution and App Store Connect scales it down for smaller devices.

FAQ
How much does Apple take from app sales?
30% of the price by default (Apple Developer Program License Agreement, Schedule 2, section 3.4). 15% if you are in the App Store Small Business Program, which is open to developers new to the App Store or with up to $1 million in proceeds the previous calendar year (Apple). Auto-renewable subscriptions drop to 15% after a subscriber has a year of paid service (Apple).
Are there App Store fees for free apps?
Apple takes no commission on a free download with no in-app purchases. You still need the Apple Developer Program to publish, which is 99 USD per membership year (Apple, read Oct 23, 2026).
Does Apple take 30% of subscriptions?
In a subscriber's first year, yes: you get 70% of the price minus applicable taxes. After one year of paid service in that subscription group you get 85%. Small Business Program members get 85% from day one. Free trials don't count toward the year.
Is Apple's commission taken before or after tax?
After. Apple's subscriptions page describes your share as a percentage of the subscription price "minus applicable taxes". In countries where the price includes VAT or GST, enter that rate so the calculator removes it before the commission.
What screenshot sizes does the App Store require in 2026?
Apple's screenshot specifications (read Oct 23, 2026) require at least one iPhone screenshot for the Dynamic Island medium display (1179 × 2556 or 1206 × 2622 portrait), and the 13-inch iPad size (2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732) if your app runs on iPad. Upload 1 to 10 per size as .jpeg, .jpg or .png, with no transparency. The full table is on this page.
