MCP (Model Context Protocol)
Short answerMCP is an open protocol, introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, for connecting AI apps to tools and data: a server exposes tools and resources, and any MCP client (Claude, IDEs, agents) can call them.
Why it matters
Write a tool once as an MCP server and every compatible assistant can use it, instead of one plugin per app.
Our number
We run our own MCP servers on this machine (an agent harness and a machine-knowledge service), and our open-source Rust crates include MCP integrations.
