Rust edition
Short answerAn edition (2015, 2018, 2021, 2024) is an opt-in set of language changes set per crate with edition = "2021". Crates on different editions still link together.
Why it matters
Moving a crate to a new edition can need code changes (cargo fix --edition automates most), but it never forces your dependencies to move.
Our number
Edition of the latest release, top 300 crates: 2021: 157, 2018: 74, 2024: 49, not set: 20.
