Steam wishlist
Short answerA Steam wishlist is a player saving a game to buy later. Steam emails wishlisters when the game launches or goes on sale, and wishlist counts feed Steam's visibility decisions.
Why it matters
For an indie launch, wishlists before release are the best public predictor of first-week sales.
