What to do

  1. See which version you have: cargo tree -i openssl-src (it also shows which of your dependencies pulls it in).
  2. Update within your version requirement: cargo update -p openssl-src. If the fix is a newer major or minor than your requirement allows, raise it in Cargo.toml (for example openssl-src = "300.0.12") or update the dependency that pulls it in.
  3. Check again with cargo audit, or paste your Cargo.lock into our Cargo.toml checker.

Details from the advisory

An invalid pointer dereference on read can be triggered when an application tries to load malformed PKCS7 data with the d2i_PKCS7(), d2i_PKCS7_bio() or d2i_PKCS7_fp() functions.

The result of the dereference is an application crash which could lead to a denial of service attack. The TLS implementation in OpenSSL does not call this function however third party applications might call these functions on untrusted data.
