clippy::eq_op: Checks for equal operands to comparison, logical and bitwise, difference and division binary operators (==, >, etc., &&, ||, &, |, ^, - and /)
What it meansChecks for equal operands to comparison, logical and bitwise, difference and division binary operators (==, >, etc., &&, ||, &, |, ^, - and /). It is in the correctness group and denied by default (the build fails).
Does it matter?
This is usually just a typo or a copy and paste error.
Code that is almost certainly wrong. Denied by default: the build fails until you fix it or allow it.
How to fix it
Clippy does not fix this one automatically. Change the code by hand:
Flagged
if x + 1 == x + 1 {}
// or
assert_eq!(a, a);
Turn it off, or on
Allow it where it does not fit your code, as narrowly as you can:
On one item
#[allow(clippy::eq_op)]
fn my_function() { /* ... */ }Whole crate (Cargo.toml)
[lints.clippy]
eq_op = "allow"One run
cargo clippy -- -A clippy::eq-opThe [lints] table needs Rust 1.74 or newer. In a workspace, put it under [workspace.lints.clippy] and add [lints] workspace = true to each member.
Clippy's own documentation
What it does
Checks for equal operands to comparison, logical and
bitwise, difference and division binary operators (==, >, etc., &&,
||, &, |, ^, - and /).
Why is this bad?
This is usually just a typo or a copy and paste error.
Known problems
False negatives: We had some false positives regarding
calls (notably racer had one instance
of x.pop() && x.pop()), so we removed matching any function or method
calls. We may introduce a list of known pure functions in the future.
Example
if x + 1 == x + 1 {}
// or
assert_eq!(a, a);
From the Clippy lint list (0.1.99), part of the Rust project, MIT or Apache-2.0. Official entry.
