clippy::lint_groups_priority: Checks for lint groups with the same priority as lints in the Cargo.toml [lints] table. This lint will be removed once cargo#12918 is resolved
What it meansChecks for lint groups with the same priority as lints in the Cargo.toml [lints] table. This lint will be removed once cargo#12918 is resolved. It is in the correctness group and denied by default (the build fails).
Does it matter?
The order of lints in the [lints] is ignored, to have a lint override a group the priority field needs to be used, otherwise the sort order is undefined.
Code that is almost certainly wrong. Denied by default: the build fails until you fix it or allow it.
How to fix it
Clippy does not fix this one automatically. Change the code by hand:
Turn it off, or on
Allow it where it does not fit your code, as narrowly as you can:
On one item
#[allow(clippy::lint_groups_priority)]
fn my_function() { /* ... */ }Whole crate (Cargo.toml)
[lints.clippy]
lint_groups_priority = "allow"One run
cargo clippy -- -A clippy::lint-groups-priorityThe [lints] table needs Rust 1.74 or newer. In a workspace, put it under [workspace.lints.clippy] and add [lints] workspace = true to each member.
Clippy's own documentation
What it does
Checks for lint groups with the same priority as lints in the Cargo.toml
[lints] table.
This lint will be removed once cargo#12918 is resolved.
Why is this bad?
The order of lints in the [lints] is ignored, to have a lint override a group the
priority field needs to be used, otherwise the sort order is undefined.
Known problems
Does not check lints inherited using lints.workspace = true
Example
[lints.clippy]
pedantic = "warn"
similar_names = "allow"
Use instead:
[lints.clippy]
pedantic = { level = "warn", priority = -1 }
similar_names = "allow"
