Language features stabilized

  • Stabilize explicitly inferred const arguments (feature(generic_arg_infer))
  • Stabilize the avx512 target features
  • Stabilize kl and widekl target features for x86
  • Stabilize sha512, sm3 and sm4 target features for x86
  • Stabilize LoongArch target features f, d, frecipe, lasx, lbt, lsx, and lvz
  • [Stabilize repr128 (#[repr(u128)], #[repr(i128)])](https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/138285)

19 APIs stabilized

NonZero<char>, File::lock, File::lock_shared, File::try_lock, File::try_lock_shared, File::unlock, NonNull::from_ref, NonNull::from_mut, NonNull::without_provenance, NonNull::with_exposed_provenance, NonNull::expose_provenance, OsString::leak, PathBuf::leak, Result::flatten, std::os::linux::net::TcpStreamExt::quickack, std::os::linux::net::TcpStreamExt::set_quickack, <[T; N]>::as_mut_slice, <[u8]>::eq_ignore_ascii_case, str::eq_ignore_ascii_case

Can it break my build?

The release lists these compatibility notes. Most only affect rare code, but read them before you raise your toolchain in CI:

Use it

rustup update stable # get the newest release
rustup install 1.89 # or exactly this one
rustup override set 1.89 # pin a project to it

To require at least this version from users of your crate, set rust-version = "1.89" under [package] in Cargo.toml. Cargo then refuses to build it on older compilers with a clear message, and with resolver 3 (the default on the 2024 edition, Rust 1.85+) it also prefers dependency versions that support it.
