Yanked version (cargo yank)
Short answerYanking marks a published crate version so new projects will not pick it, without deleting it: existing Cargo.lock files that already use it keep working.
Why it matters
Maintainers yank broken or vulnerable releases. If cargo update skips a version, a yank is usually why.
Our number
2 of the versions published by the top 300 crates in our ~90-day window are now yanked.
