clippy::ignore_without_reason: Checks for ignored tests without messages
What it meansChecks for ignored tests without messages. It is in the pedantic group and off by default.
Does it matter?
The reason for ignoring the test may not be obvious.
Stricter lints with some false positives. Off by default; opt in with clippy::pedantic.
How to fix it
Clippy does not fix this one automatically. Change the code by hand:
Flagged
#[test]
#[ignore]
fn test() {}
Write this instead
#[test]
#[ignore = "Some good reason"]
fn test() {}
Turn it off, or on
It is off by default. To use it, set it to warn or deny:
Whole crate (Cargo.toml)
[lints.clippy]
ignore_without_reason = "warn"In code
#![warn(clippy::ignore_without_reason)]One run
cargo clippy -- -W clippy::ignore-without-reasonThe [lints] table needs Rust 1.74 or newer. In a workspace, put it under [workspace.lints.clippy] and add [lints] workspace = true to each member.
Clippy's own documentation
What it does
Checks for ignored tests without messages.
Why is this bad?
The reason for ignoring the test may not be obvious.
Example
#[test]
#[ignore]
fn test() {}
Use instead:
#[test]
#[ignore = "Some good reason"]
fn test() {}
Note
Clippy can only lint compiled code. For this lint to trigger, you must configure cargo clippy
to include test compilation, for instance, by using flags such as --tests or --all-targets.
From the Clippy lint list (0.1.99), part of the Rust project, MIT or Apache-2.0. Official entry.
